At Ouster, we're developing advanced sensor hardware and vision algorithms for autonomous cars and drones. We're looking for software and hardware engineers interested in working on the systems that underpin modern robotics: high performance sensors, localization, mapping, object detection, tracking and classification. Our team is composed of engineers that wear many hats and enjoy building robots that cope with the messiness of the real world. All of us push code, some of us build hardware, and none of us wants to wait another decade for cars and drones to be driving themselves.

The Deployment Software role is a customer facing software development role, critical to building a broad codebase for using Ouster sensors, and a vibrant ecosystem of open source software development. The role sits on the software team, with the primary function being software development but collaborates closely with the business team both to identify development needs from customers and help ensure successful sensor deployments for critical customers.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage and expand Ouster’s open source software repositories (e.g. www.github.com/ouster-lidar), including our drivers and visualization tools. Build the most user-friendly and functional codebase so customers will be delighted by our user experience. Review pull requests and issues.
  • Adapt open source robotics software libraries for use with Ouster’s sensors, helping grow a vibrant ecosystem. Collaborate with active contributors to our codebase.
  • Help ensure successful customer deployments with industry leaders in real-time robotics, autonomous vehicles, factory automation, mapping, and other industries. Occasional travel (10-20%) will be required.
  • Collaborate with deployment engineers and other software engineers to implement various multi-sensor, cross-platform solutions integrating Ouster’s lidar sensors (e.g. drone mapping solution, building security system).

Experience & Skills:

  • Required: C++, Python
  • Preferred: Ros, graphics experience, experience with lidar sensor software
